Who are the Rhondda Rockets?
Well we are a dynamic team of cheerleaders based in the Rhondda and founded by Christine Protheroe who is head coach. The team at the moment is made up of children from the age of six years old to teenagers sixteen plus. The whole team is made up of girls all unique in their strengths and weaknesses. Boys of course are always welcome to join too. There are more boys joining the sport of cheerleading now and to give you a taste of this we have a link to Cheerleading TV where you can see all the behind the scenes action in the competitions.
The Rockets are not only just based within the Rhondda, they compete at all levels at the many competitions around the country and do well within these competitions. Their practice sessions can be seen via the left hand menu under Training sessions.
The Rockets, stage open days at various places throughout the year for new potential members to join and see if cheerleading is for them. These open days will be posted within the events page so if you fancy yourself as a flyer or base then keep an eye out for them and pop along. It really is good fun and the girls have a good laugh while there. Perhaps we should take the camera along to practice and then post the bloopers!
Cheerleading is becoming increasingly popular amongst girls and boys alike. Cheerleading is essentially a combination of sport, dance, gymnastics and acting. It is an excellent way of keeping fit and building stamina. It is a sport for all fitness levels as there is a place for everyone within the team. Even for the unfit amongst us within a short space of time you build upon your fitness level as you practice routines and dances. There are also plenty of what we call stunt clinics throughout the year where the team get a chance to try out new and inovative moves to incorporate into the routines.
Cheerleading is not only for the children. Within the Rockets is a fabulous support team of parents and grandparents, all of whom are friendly and involved with the girls, giving essential support to the team and the coaches. They come along to the competitions with the team and cheer along when they are competing. So you could call us the cheerleaders cheerleaders!!! We also have various events through the year such as, a christmas party along with many fundraising events that you can come along to support the team.
Finally we would like to take the opportunity to welcome all cheerleading friends old and new to the site. We have made many, many friends within the UK and would like to say a big friendly hello to them all. If there are any teams that would like to link their team website to the Rhondda Rockets site then please contact one of us and we can set it up. Also any cheerleaders who have left us in the past are most welcome back. We would really like to hear from you all to see what your up to! So send us a picture of you and we'll post it for you.
